Privacy Policy

Summary

Plain Markdown offers a free browser extension (local processing, no data collection for conversion) and an optional paid plan with higher AI usage limits. The data flows are described below.

Browser extension

Page conversion runs locally in your browser using our extraction engine. Drafts and settings are stored only in your browser, never on our servers. The extension performs no analytics and sets no cookies.

When you use an AI action, the relevant content is sent to our servers and processed using advanced Google Gemini models, then returned to you. Plain Markdown does not retain a copy of your content or use it to train any model.

Destinations

When you connect an external service as a destination and use "Send to," the captured Markdown is sent directly from your browser to that service. The content does not pass through our servers. Any tokens or OAuth credentials you authorize are stored safely in your browser.

Some destinations use OAuth. In those cases the one-time authorization code is exchanged on our server so that our integration credentials never ship inside the extension. We do not access your account beyond what you explicitly grant during the consent step.

Payments

Stripe handles all payment processing. We store your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers to manage your subscription, but never your card details. See Stripe's privacy policy.

License keys

Your Pro license key is delivered to you by email when you purchase. We store it securely on our servers, never in plain text. The email address you used at checkout is kept alongside the license so you can recover your key if you lose it.

Third parties

We use a small set of trusted vendors to run the service:

• Stripe: payment processing
• Email service provider: license key delivery and recovery
• AI infrastructure: request routing and processing using Google Gemini models

Destinations you choose to connect (such as note-taking or read-later services) receive content directly from your browser and operate under their own privacy policies.

No analytics or tracking services are used.

Data retention

We keep license and billing records for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal and accounting obligations. Content sent to our AI service is processed in memory and is not retained after the request completes.

Email support@plainmarkdown.com to access, export, or delete your data, or to ask any privacy question.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will notify affected users by email. The date above reflects the most recent update.
